Inclusive
patch kits
|
 |
 |
The 5.1B-2/PK4 kit marks
a new way of delivering Tru64 UNIX fixes. In it we
have introduced the concept of an all or nothing installation.
This optimization radically reduces the amount of time
required to install a Patch kit.

 |
Faster
boot times with clustered logical storage manager (CLSM)
|
 |
 |
| With this new
code optimization, member nodes in a cluster boot up
to 60% faster than before, as was the experience of a
key Tru64 UNIX customer in their high-performance technical
computing environment. Individual customer results will
vary, depending on the size and number of active members
in the cluster. |

Improved
Memory Channel performance during peak system utilization
|
 |
 |
The Memory Channel Subsystem
has been enhanced to support parallel Memory Channel
input processing, which increases peak performance,
and ensures more continuous data supply to CPUs. During
peak system utilization, the enhanced concurrency produces
increased resource availability, via additional input
threads working in parallel. Parallel Memory Channel
input improves performance during peak demands, with
no performance degradation during normal system utilization.

 |
Unified
buffer cache scaling
|
 |
 |
With Version 5.1B-2 we
introduce Unified Buffer Cache Scaling, which greatly
improves large SMP and NUMA system performance.
Because EV7-based systems are PCI-X systems with
MSI-capable devices and drivers, customers will see
better performance
from reduced locks, especially in large configurations.
|
 |
Improved
cluster efficiency for bad disk detection and handling
|
 |
 |
Improved cluster efficiency
for bad disk detection and handling mitigates the risk
of unplanned downtime and reduces the system overhead
to run this self-healing feature on your Tru64 UNIX
V5.1B-2 systems. Now, bad devices are identified and
handled nearly twice as fast.

 |
Worldwide
language support enhancements
|
 |
 |
With V5.1B-2 we have taken
the opportunity to update the various localized messages.
We have also improved the over all performance of the
Asian TTY subsystem under heavy loads. In addition
we have enhanced support of Chinese characters together
with improved iconv converters for Japanese mainframe
codesets.
|
 |
Networking
improvements
|
 |
 |
V5.1B-2 updates support
of Mobile IPv6 to the latest Networking RFCs. In addition
the IPv6 Advanced API now conforms to RFC 3542.

 |
Associated
products
|
 |
 |
With V5.1B-2 we have bundled
in many updated versions to the various applications
which we refer to as Associated Products. These applications
have been identified as having a close affinity with
the Tru64 UNIX operating system and are thus widely
used among our user base. The following applications
have all been updated as of V5.1B-2:
- Advanced Server for UNIX
- TruCluster Server
- Worldwide Language Support
- LDAP Client Utilities
- OpenLDAP
- DataDirect (ODBC/JDBC Driver)
- Mozilla
- Worldwide Language Support
- Tru64 UNIX to HP-UX Software Transition Kit
|
- Perl
- CollguiExtended System V Legato Networker
- Motif 2.1 Secure Web Server
- UniCensus check
- Visual Threads
- WEBES UniCensus check
- Visual Threads
- WEBES

ISV partnerships and bundled software from HP and ISVs
|
 |
 |
Tru64 UNIX has entered into an extended commitment with DataDirect
Technologies to ensure that Tru64 UNIX customers will have access and
support on ODBC and JDBC drivers for at least the next 6 years. This will
also ensure cross-platform interoperability between various databases
which may or may not reside on Tru64 UNIX.
In addition, we have also bundled into V5.1B-2 the following ISV and HP
offerings:
