DESCRIPTION

Under certain conditions, the fuser(2) system call can result in a panic with the panic string, "VREF: Invalid v_usecount transition."

The problem can be seen only when an fuser system call encounters a stale fifo vnode pointer. This stale pointer results from a race condition in the fifo code.

The stack trace for this panic is as follows:

RESOLUTION

HP is releasing the following ERP kit publicly for use by any customer. The ERP kit uses dupatch to install and will not install over any Customer Specific Patches (CSPs) that have file intersections with the ERP. Contact your service provider for assistance if the installation of an ERP is blocked by any of your installed CSPs.

The fixes contained in the V5.1B-4 ERP kit are targeted to be available in the following mainstream patchkit:

HP Tru64 UNIX 5.1B-5

The kit distributes the following files:

/sys/BINARY/vfs.mod
