DESCRIPTION
If a multithreaded application calls system(3) or vfork(2) to create a child process, the application running in the child process may fail and core dump. This core dump often happens when the child is a single-threaded program such the ksh shell program or other programs.

SCOPE
The following versions are affected:

• HP Tru64 UNIX V5.1B - PK2/BL22
• HP Tru64 UNIX V4.0G - PK4/BL22

RESOLUTION
HP is releasing the following early release patch kits (ERPs) publicly for use by any customer. The ERP kits use dupatch to install and will not install over any customer-specific patches (CSPs) that have file intersections with the ERP. 

With this patch, the kernel properly clears a state that was inadvertently copied from the parent to the child process.

The fix appears in the following mainstream releases:

• HP Tru64 UNIX V5.1B PK3/BL24 (already released) 
• HP Tru64 UNIX 4.0F PK8/BL22 (already released)
