9    Input Methods

This chapter describes the differences in input methods between Tru64 UNIX and HP-UX. Both Tru64 UNIX and HP-UX provide input methods for Japanese, Korean, Simplified Chinese, and Traditional Chinese. Tru64 UNIX also provides a multilingual input method.

9.1    Japanese Input Methods

Tru64 UNIX provides the dxjim input method to input Japanese characters. HP-UX provides the xjim and ATOK X input methods. The differences between the input methods are as follows:

9.2    Korean Input Methods

Tru64 UNIX provides the dxhangulim input method to input Korean characters. HP-UX provides the xkim input method. The differences between the input methods are as follows:

9.3    Simplified Chinese Input Methods

Tru64 UNIX provides the dxhanziim input method to input Simplified Chinese characters. HP-UX provides the xsim input method. The differences between the input methods are as follows:

9.4    Traditional Chinese Input Methods

Tru64 UNIX provides the dxhanyuim input method to input Traditional Chinese characters. HP-UX provides the xtim input method. The differences between the input methods are as follows:

9.5    Multilingual Input Methods

Tru64 UNIX Version 5.1B provides a multilingual input method called dxim. Currently, dxim supports Korean, Simplified Chinese, and Traditional Chinese input functionalities provided by dxhangulim, dxhanziim, and dxhanyuim. HP-UX does not provide a multilingual input method.

9.6    Selecting an Input Method

In Japanese locales on HP-UX, a small window appears at the start of CDE session that contains a list of Japanese input methods provided by the system. You can choose one input method (or nothing) for that session. This is done by the CDE 2.1 standard dtimsstart command. Tru64 UNIX provides dtimsstart, too, but it is the CDE 1.0 version and different from the HP-UX version. Tru64 UNIX does not provide such input method selection functionality.
