Read Before Installing or Using HP C++ Version 7.1 for Tru64 UNIX

Dear HP C++ Customer,

This release fixes several problems in earlier versions. No user manuals have been changed; updated release notes are supplied with the software kit.

Please take time to read the following information about your product.

Installation Information

Installing HP C++ for Tru64 UNIX requires the Tru64 UNIX operating system Version 4.0D or higher.

The Tru64 UNIX Layered Products media consists of the following:

  • Software Product Library CD-ROMs containing the installation kits and related documentation in ASCII and PostScript formats.
  • Online Documentation Library CD-ROMs containing documentation files in HTML and other formats.

Contents of the Media CD-ROM

The Media CD-ROM contains the installation subset kit and the HP C++ Installation Guide for Tru64 UNIX for installing this product and other layered products. The Media CD-ROM device contains the following HP C++ files:

  • The HP C++ for Tru64 UNIX installation subset is located in:


    /cxx71/kit 
    
  • The HP C++ Installation Guide for Tru64 UNIX, this "Read First" letter, the release notes, and the Software Product Description (SPD) are provided as files in PostScript (.ps) form and ASCII (.txt) form in the following directory:


    /cxx71/documentation 
    

Release Notes Information

Before installing this release, please read the release notes for HP C++ Version 7.1, particularly the section entitled, "Important Compatibility Information." The release notes also contain installation-related instructions and a summary of technical changes, known problems, restrictions, and incompatibilities.

The release notes are contained in the following directory on the Media CD-ROM:


/cxx71/documentation 

After installation of HP C++ for Tru64 UNIX, the release notes for the compiler are located in:


/usr/lib/cmplrs/cxx/V7.1-nnn/cxx71_release.txt 

License Management Facility Information

A License Management Facility (LMF) Product Authorization Key (PAK) must be registered and loaded before you can install HP C++ (cxx). For more information, see the HP C++ Installation Guide for Tru64 UNIX. For information on reading the HP C++ documentation on the CD-ROM, see the Software Product Library CD-ROM User's Guide.

Contents of the Media Kit

  • Bill of Materials
    Please read the Bill of Materials (BOM) enclosed in this kit and check to see that all items listed are actually in your kit. If your kit is damaged or any items are missing, call your HP representative.
  • Media
    On the Media CD-ROM, you will find the HP C++ for Tru64 UNIX directory and installation subset. For information about installing HP C++ for Tru64 UNIX on your system, see the HP C++ Installation Guide for Tru64 UNIX (provided as a file on the Media CD-ROM).
  • CD-ROM Documentation
    The following documents accompany the CD-ROM distribution kit:
    • Software Product Library CD-ROM User's Guide
      This guide describes how to: mount and control access to the Software Product Library CD-ROM; use the CDMENU utility; access the contents of the CD-ROM; and install layered products from the CD-ROM.
    • Software Product Library Master Index
      This document lists the directory locations of products on the Software Product Library CD-ROM.
    • Online Documentation Library CD-ROM User's Guide
      This guide describes how to use the Online Documentation Library CD-ROM.
    • Online Documentation Library Master Index
      This document lists the products on the Online Documentation Library CD-ROM.
    • "Read First" letter
      The letter describes changes from the previous version of the Software Product Library.
  • HP C++ for Tru64 UNIX Documentation
    The printed HP C++ documentation kit includes the following manuals:
    • HP C++ Installation Guide for Tru64 UNIX
    • Stroustrup, Bjarne. The C++ Programming Language, 3nd Edition. Reading, Massachusetts: Addison-Wesley. 1997
    • Using HP C++ for Tru64 UNIX and Linux Alpha

    The Tru64 UNIX Software Product Library CD-ROM kit does not include the printed HP C++ documentation set (you can order the documentation set or individual documents separately). See the Software Product Description for ordering information.
    Except for The C++ Programming Language, 3nd Edition, HP C++ documents are provided as HTML files on the Online Documentation Library CD-ROM. To read the HP C++ documents, follow the procedure described in Chapter 3, Accessing Information on the Online Documentation Library CD-ROM, of the Online Documentation Library CD-ROM User's Guide. The C++ bookshelf category is listed in the Online Documentation Library Master Index that accompanies the CD-ROM distribution.
  • Software Product Description
    The SPD provides an overview of the HP C++ for Tru64 UNIX product and describes the technical environment in which the product is supported. The SPD is provided on the Media CD-ROM.
