Release Notes for Linux and Tru64 UNIX Portability Tools V5.1 December 2001 Copyright 2001 Compaq Computer Corporation Please read the following information prior to completing an installation of the Linux and Tru64 UNIX Portability Tools. The information here is supplemental to release notes and readme files that are provided with the individual components. If you have questions, comments, or suggestions about the Linux Portability Tools please send email to lt64Affinity.feedback@compaq.com. Also check the Linux and Tru64 UNIX Affinity program website http://www.tru64unix.compaq.com/affinity for the latest information about this product. NOTE: If you have a Tru64 UNIX V5.1 Rev 732 system with the Open Source Software Collection(OSSC) V5.1 installed there may be library conflicts when installing software from the Linux and Tru64 UNIX Portability Tools Cd-rom. It is recommended that you update to the latest version of the Open Source Software Collection (order part number QB-6SLAA-SA). Alternatively you can remove the OSSC components that have conflicts. Netscape-based installation ============================ 1. When using the tools_install command the Netscape browser does not read your preferences file and therefore may not have the appropriate proxies set for following web links. You can adjust your proxies as necessary. Command line installation ========================== If you do not have a Netscape browser on your system it is possible to install all of the components from the command line. If you chose this method of installation you must install RPM first. Mount the CD-rom and look at each of the component directories: * RPM - run install-rpm script * C-Forge - use rpm -i image.rpm to install correct image * Gnome - run install-gnome script * Gnupro - run install-gnupro script * KDE - run install-kde or install-* script for the components you want * LXT64 - use install-LXT64 script * SCL - use rpm -i to install correct image * STL - use rpm -i to install correct image * DskMan - use install-dskman script RPM (Red Hat Package Manager) =============================== 1. Installation requires RPM V3.0.2 or higher. A Tru64 UNIX version is provided on the kit. See the website http://www.rpm.org for the latest information about rpm and also to get the latest kits. Red Hat GNUPro Software Development Tools ========================================== 1. Installation of Red Hat GNUPro Software Development tools on Tru64 UNIX requires max_proc_per_user to be at least 128. You can check this parameter and modify it as needed using the graphical command /usr/bin/X11/dxkerneltuner or the command line utility /sbin/sysconfigdb. You should read the reference pages for these commands before using them. 2. Installation of Red Hat GNUPro tools requires assembler version 3.04.33 or higher. This only affects Tru64 UNIX V5.1 Rev 732 systems, not V5.1A. To check this on a V5.1 system use the following command: /usr/lib/cmplrs/cc/adu -V. If necessary, the installation process gives you the option of installing this assembler or not. Installation of subsequent Tru64 UNIX V5.1 patch kits (released after 8/01) may contain updates to the assembler. It is recommended that you update to the offical patch kit version. If you choose not to install the assembler as part of the GNUPro Software Development install process the GNUPro tools will not pass the verification tests during final phase of the install. You may install the assembler at any time by re-mounting the Linux Portatbility Tools Cdrom and then doing the following: #cp /usr/lib/cmplrs/cc/adu /usr/lib/cmplrs/cc/adu.org # cd /mnt/ADU #cp ./ADU /usr/lib/cmplrs/cc/adu #chown bin /usr/lib/cmplrs/cc/adu #chgrp bin /usr/lib/cmplrs/cc/adu #chmod 555 /usr/lib/cmplrs/cc/adu KDE Desktop ============ 1. You must install the Ancillary and Base packages prior to installing other individual KDE 2.2.1 components. GNOME Desktop ============== 1. You might get the following warning message during the install: ** Crtical: ** file oaf-activate.c ...... This set of messages is a warning and can be ignored. 2. The Gnome Office port was not completed in time for this release. Solaris Threads Compatilibity Library for Linux ================================================== 1. The ScTL software has been published on the Compaq Open Source website: http://www.opensource.compaq.com. Updated sources will be available on that site and we encourage you to take a look at all the Compaq Open Source projects! Disklabel Problem ============================ Linux disklabels are not supported by Tru64 UNIX. To use these disks you can reformat them on your Linux system so that the label is a BSD style disklabel. As root on your Linux system run the fdisk command. When you get the fdisk command prompt enter a "b". The system should then prompt you to write a BSD style label.
